Richmond Amateur Dramatic Society’s latest play, Stepping Out, will finally go on stage at The Georgian Theatre Royal next week having been three years in the making.

The Society started work on their production of Richard Harris’ award-winning comedy back in 2019 with tap dancing lessons in preparation for the performances originally planned for Summer 2020.

However, the pandemic struck and the production had to be postponed until RADS’ regular summer slot at the Theatre in 2022. This resulted in unavoidable cast changes but new members were found who were able to get up to speed with the tap dancing and rehearsals finally got underway in April of this year.

The storyline follows a group of women – and one man -  who attempt to overcome their inhibitions and left feet in their weekly tap dancing class. Mavis, a former professional chorus girl tries her hardest to teach the enthusiastic amateurs some performance skills for an upcoming grand charity performance. But before the dancing begins Mavis must mediate the minor dramas that erupt among this motley but loveable crew. As the play progresses, so do the dance skills, but will they have the ability to be transformed into triumphant tappers?

“I could not be prouder of the cast,” said Lynne Kerr, the show’s Director. “Some have been with me from the beginning, and some have joined us more recently, but they have all worked together beautifully as a team, and judging from the laughter at rehearsals, have had some fun along the way! The cast are really looking forward to bringing the characters to life and entertaining our audience.”

Stepping Out is at the Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th July and Wednesday 3rd to Saturday 6th August 2022. Tickets from £7.50 to £14.50 are available from the Georgian Theatre Box Office on 01748 825252 or online at www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
