Richmond residents are encouraged to get ahead and book their tickets for the town's legendary pantomime.

Richmond has many festive traditions from the much-loved Christmas parrot in the Friary Gardens to Old Hoss that makes its way round the Market Place on Christmas Eve. One of these traditions is the pantomime at The Georgian Theatre Royal which is also the UK's oldest working theatre in its original form.

Pantomimes at The Georgian are legendary. Not only are they much loved by locals but over the years they have developed a national reputation for being one of the best pantomimes around. People travel from all over the country (and even abroad) to see them.

In 2022, The Times rated Pinocchio as 'best for family fun' and went on to say: "this jewel-box Georgian playhouse is the prettiest in the land." Sleeping Beauty was chosen by The Observer as one of its top festive shows of 2018, and in 2015, The Telegraph named the Theatre as the No.1 place to see a pantomime in the UK.

Last year's production of Pinocchio (pictured) broke box office records and was financially the most successful pantomime since the Theatre introduced its own in-house production in 2010. It also gathered many top-rated reviews from critics and audince alike.

So what's next in line for the Richmond treatment? Rapunzel is the age-old story about a lonely princess trapped in a tower but longing for a life of adventure in the outside world. The production will run from Wednesday 6 December 2023 until Sunday 7 January 2024 with a total of 57 performances.

“We are still working on the detail but rest-assured that it will have all the hallmarks that our audiences have come to love,” said Theatre Manager, Clare Allen. “There will be amazing song and dance routines, fantastic sets and special effects, huge amounts of laughter, plenty of audience participation and, of course, those two essential elements - knitting and Tunnock's teacakes!

"As our reputation grows, so does our popularity with many shows selling out. People book earlier each year, so we would recommend getting your tickets early to secure your favourite seats."

Tickets are available now from the Box Office on 01748 825252 or online at: www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk
