Richmond Amateur Dramatic Society is bringing the Olivier Award-winning drama Nell Gwynn to The Georgian Theatre Royal between Thursday 25 July and Saturday 3 August.

Written by Jessica Swales, the play scooped ‘Best New Comedy’ at the 2016 Olivier Awards and promises a delightful evening of laughter, music, and historical intrigue.

Nell Gwynn tells the remarkable true story of an orange seller who rises to become one of the first and most celebrated female actors on the English stage during the Restoration period. The play masterfully combines humour, romance, and drama, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs of women in the performing arts. It also portrays the difficulties Nell faces in dealing with her roots after she famously becomes one of King Charles II’s many mistresses.

"We are excited to bring Jessica Swale's enchanting play to life," said director Max Walker. "Nell Gwynn's story is not only entertaining but also incredibly inspiring. Her journey from obscurity to fame, set against the backdrop of the theatrical revolution of the 17th century, resonates with contemporary themes of resilience and empowerment."

In addition to the stellar performances, audiences can look forward to stunning period costumes that transport them to the bustling streets and grand theatres of Restoration London and an array of memorable and catchy songs.

The show runs from Thursday 25th to Saturday 27th July and Wednesday 31st July to Saturday 3rd August at The Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond. Tickets are available online or via the box office on 01748 825252.
