Music lovers and culture seekers are in for a treat as Richmond’s annual MayFest returns over the early May bank holiday weekend from Saturday 3 to Monday 5 May.

This much-loved celebration of music and history kicks off with a special Come and Sing Messiah event hosted by Richmondshire Choral Society at St Mary’s Church on the Saturday. Everyone is welcome to join the daytime rehearsal (11am) and sing in the evening performance (7.30pm) – no experience needed.

Also on Saturday, the traditional musical procession to Easby led by folk duo The Ran Tanners sets off from The Station at 4pm, finishing with tea, cake, and a unique performance of The Play of Daniel at St Agatha’s Church – a medieval masterpiece brought to life by local group Trouvere.

Sunday brings the first ever MayFest organ recital (4pm) with acclaimed organist Andrew Christer, followed by a high-energy ceilidh with the Blind Panic Ceilidh Band in Richmond School’s Sixth Form Hall.

With free and ticketed events across the weekend – and discounts for local residents – MayFest is a celebration for all.
