Discover the story of how a shared passion for steam trains drove an international museum rescue mission.

Join us at The King’s Head in Richmond for an evening with Colonel Steve Davies MBE.In 2002, Colonel Steve Davies was part of a British Army peacekeeping force sent to Sierra Leone. An ardent railway enthusiast, he’d heard about a legendary collection of railway engines lost somewhere in an industrial dockyard. Intrigued, Steve went looking for them…

Steve has had many adventures both in and out of the army, but when he discovered Sierra Leone’s steam trains rotting away and forgotten, long after being decommissioned in 1975, it inspired him to set up a museum to celebrate Sierra Leone’s fascinating locomotive heritage.

As a special guest speaker, Steve will be be covering his own remarkable life story, Sierra Leone and its civil war, why the British Army was sent there, and how the Sierra Leone Railway Museum came about.
