Antiques Valuation Day
Venue: The Station
Time: 10am to 2pm
Top antiques expert David Elstob will be hosting a free valuation day at The Station.

David is one of only a small number of auctioneers in the country to be recognised as a RICS Chartered Arts and Antiques Surveyor; a rare distinction that puts him firmly into the industry’s elite. Having held senior positions at premier auction houses in the region, he launched his own auction and valuation business last year with his wife Beth, a leading jewellery consultant and valuer.

Following a highly successful first year of trading, Elstob & Elstob has now moved from its original site at Bedale Hall and is now based at larger premises on the outskirts of Ripon. It provides a focal point for buying and selling high-quality antiques, fine art and objects of distinction in the region and employs a team of specialists who have previously worked at high-end institutions including Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonhmas and Doyle in New York.
This free valuation day provides an ideal opportunity for people to find out more about a whole range of contemporary or antique objects, including silver, ceramics, glass, pictures, sculpture or other collectables.

While there is no obligation at all attached to the valuations, anyone wishing to sell an item will be given the option to have it included in the next auction at the Ripon saleroom.

For more information about Elstob & Elstob’s valuation services, sales or the event at The Station, please call: 01765 699200, email: info@elstobandelstob.co.uk or visit: www.elstobandelstob.co.uk

Talk: Hostile Environment
Venue: The Green Howards Museum
Time: 6.30pm to 8.00pm
We tell the little known story of how Britain played its part in the Russian Civil War.

Instead of returning home at the end of the First World War, thousands of British soldiers, including 1300 Green Howards, were deployed to northern Russia.

Find out why they went, what they found there, and how they coped in such a hostile environment. There’s murder, mutiny, epic journeys, divided loyalties and questionable motives.

Using personal archives from the museum’s collection this Museum Talk explores the complex positioning of ‘red’ versus ‘white’ at a time of enormous global social and political upheaval.

This Museum Talk accompanies our extended and updated Special Exhibition.

Tickets are £5 and are available from the museum – call 01748 826561, or reserve online.

Please note, this Museum Talk starts at 6.30pm.
