Village Shop Harnesses Manpower To Serve Up Community Breakfast
Monday - October 26, 2015
A North Yorkshire village shop is opening a pop-up breakfast café for one day in November to help raise funds and bring the community together.

The Middleton Tyas Village Shop near Richmond, is holding a Men’s Breakfast on Saturday November 7th which will see the male residents of the village cook and serve a hearty first meal of the day to diners.

Breakfast will be served from 9.30am to 1pm and the event costs £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. All proceeds from the annual event will go towards the running of the shop and post office which is community-owned.

The chefs will be using ingredients sourced from local suppliers including meat from Arthur Haigh Butchers at Dalton Thirsk, eggs from Gilling West and milk from Acorn Dairy in Darlington.

In 2004 the village shop had been on the brink of closure before the local community stepped in. Through a combination of grants and donations, villagers managed to convert the old reading room into the shop, which is today run by volunteers and two part-time paid members of staff.
